Visual inspections facilitate a more accurate assessment of actual flooding conditions.

Plus I'm restoring a set of Bose 901's for some teacher, that's a lot of refoaming and one major pain in the rear, so it's provides some entertainment while waiting for adhesives to dry.

Ledges is a cool park up near Boone. It has camping, some hiking trails, and a shallow creak that is great for the kids to play in and you can drive through it in several places  Grin

Ledges main feature is Canyon Road, winds down the canyon carved by the creek through the limestone beds. The neatest parts you need to hike up the creek to see.

Just for the record, the majority of accidents at Ledges involving injuries occur at the crossings from people losing control doing just that. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I spend a lot of time at that park, it sucks when there's an accident because the state reacts by closing the road and needless to say no one expected anything tragic to happen before it did.

Wouldn't want that to happen. I know there are a lot of kids around including my own. I always stop to make sure everyone is out of the way and it actually doesn’t take a whole lot of speed to do that. Also with it being a one way road I haven’t had a problem.  Wink

What usually happens is someone hits the gas and fishtails.

Came up on a truck full kids last year, didn't make the first turn and hit a tree, I tend to advocate driving like a granny through there anymore. There's one DNR officer that comes through once in a while, if you're driving a jeep, your on his list already.

I grew up in boone and spent alot of time at the ledges and can recall not one single accident, and splashes like that don't take much speed. the kids love it and the parents get a kick out of it too

When's the last time there was an accident? I thought they just closed the road for high water?  Huh

There were just two last year, although not involving the crossings, one cyclist lost control and hit a tree I believe they died, and a bunch of bashed up kids that I know of personally, can't remember which year that kid wiped out a family, they closed the road for the season that year, talked about closing it permanently, I believe they also lowered the level at which they close it.

If it's really important to you, I'll be more than happy to call the park staff tomorrow and get the details for you.

The point being, it's a public park, it get's a bit crowded, there have been accidents, a bit of caution isn't unreasonable, especially if you're out representing the club on a run or something where the general public sees you.

Nothing to get worked up about, I just have a different attitude, mine comes from being 47 with a son older than you and 3 grandsons, tends to make one a bit more conservative in some areas.
